Climate change and the increase in sudden, heavy rainfall in certain regions pose significant challenges to infrastructure and residential buildings. This necessitates the implementation of rigorous engineering and preventive measures to protect structures from the risks of floods and destructive flash floods. Protecting buildings requires integrated strategies that span from urban planning to effective on-site defense mechanisms.
The first step involves installing flood barriers and flood-resistant ventilation openings. Protective walls and ground-level deflectors are constructed to prevent water from surging toward building entrances and ground-level storage areas. Additionally, ventilation openings are equipped with self-closing valves that prevent water ingress when flood levels rise.
Equally important is the design of efficient rainwater and runoff drainage systems.
